Welcome to Ballroom Time

Ballroom Time is a not-for-profit, all-volunteer group of dancers dedicated to the promotion of ballroom dancing. We are an Established Dance Presenter at Glen Echo Park where we produce regular Sunday afternoon dances and two Annual Ballroom Dance Galas.  All of our dance events are held in the Spanish Ballroom or the Ballroom Back Room at Glen Echo Park, 7300 MacArthur Blvd, Glen Echo, MD 20812.

 Sunday Afternoon Ballroom Dances

We produce two Sunday Afternoon Ballroom Time dances each month.   Live music is provided to dance Slow Waltz, Foxtrot, Tango, Quickstep, Viennese Waltz, Rumba, Bachata, Cha-Cha, Samba, Mambo, Swing/Jive and more. Each event features a beginner lesson from 2:45 to 3:30 pm that covers ballroom dance basics and a dance of the month. The lesson is followed by dancing to live music from 3:30 to 6:00 pm. During intermissions there is dancing to pre-recorded music.  Each event features a line dance, a mixer or two, and often a showcase or dance demonstration.

OUR NEXT SUNDAY DANCE features The Mike Surratt Trio and will be held on November 10 in the Spanish Ballroom from 2:45 to 6:00 pm.  Please click on the 2024 calendar to the left for a listing of upcoming dances.

Many singles attend Ballroom Time events; a dance partner is not required. Dancers at all levels including beginners are encouraged to attend.

Ballroom Time's new Annual Winter Ball... and the Annual Fall Ball.

The Hotel Paradise Orchestra featuring Janet Paulsen returns to the Spanish Ballroom on December 8, 2024 for a special early evening Winter Ball.  There will be a beginner lesson at 6:45 pm and live music including seasonal favorites will then play from 7:30 to 10:30.  Further details to follow.

Ballroom Time's Second Annual Ballroom Dance Gala,  ("The Fall Ball") took place on October 5, 2024  following on our First Annual Autumn Ballroom Dance Gala that took place on the evening of Saturday, October 21, 2023.  That event attracted over 150 attendees.  Videos and photos from both galas can be seen in the album section of our Facebook page, which has a link below.

Ballroom Time's Dance Classes and Workshops

Ballroom Time offers both Thursday evening class series and periodic Saturday afternoon workshops to help beginners get started.  Classes are 1 hour each over 5 weeks. Workshops are 2 1/2 hours each.  Both classes and workshops are held in the Spanish Ballroom and are taught by Ballroom Time staff with occasional guest instructors.  Entitled "ABC's of Ballroom Dancing", the instruction is designed to help ballroom beginners understand how a few basic steps can be applied to multiple dance styles.  Leading and following techniques are covered with a goal of preparing students to dance at our monthly events and annual Fall and Winter Balls. No dance partner is required.  Students actively enrolled in our Thursday class series may attend our Sunday dances at the student discount rate.

Enrollment through Glen Echo Park is requested for the Thursday evening classes though drop-ins are welcome. The registration link is here: Fall/ Winter series.  The Saturday afternoon workshops are pay-at-the-door, no pre-registration is required.  Our next workshop will be held on November 16, 2024 to prepare for the Winter Ball.
